Georgetown Overnight (Upcountry)
Georgetown is a two-day trip, which you will remember forever. It gives you the opportunity to step away from the comforts of your hotel and head into rural heartland to The McCarthy Island Division area, approximately 175 miles up-river where you will experience the "real country". You will travel both by road and river to the old Capital to spend a night in a "bush" hotel. You will also visit the mystical stone circles and glimpse Gambia's wild life.
The first day takes you straight to Georgetown. We depart from the Hotel and drive on the South Bank to Georgetown. We will make various stops on the way, which include Nature Study. We arrive at Sankulay Kunda and join the ferry to Georgetown, where we make a conducted tour in the bus to see the Colonial School, slave house, and other tourist attractions.
Later, we join a pirogue (African wooden boat) to the Camp. Upon arrival, we check-in and have lunch.
After relaxing for a while we journey to Wassu to see the Stone Circles and we will visit the weekly "Lomo" market, where you will be given a guided tour. On the way back, we will stop to see a Nomadic family, and return to our camp for dinner, with the dancers from Georgetown providing the entertainment.
On the second day, an early bird watching tour is organised from the camp before breakfast. After breakfast, we join our boat at the camp for a 3 hour river cruise to Sapu. Lunch will be served on board. Afterwards, we will join our transport in Sapu, taking the South Bank back to your hotel, and making various stops to ensure convenience breaks.
